Toshiba Machine’s origins can be traced back more than a century to Shibaura
Engineering Works Co., established in 1875. Toshiba Corporation was launched
when Tokyo Electric Co., and Shibaura Engineering Works Co. combined operations
in the late 1930’s. The Toshiba Group today comprises more than 700 Japan-based
companies and many others worldwide, providing high-quality products for
consumer electronics, home appliances, office equipment, medical, optical, data
communications, manufacturing and computer markets.
The machine tool building division of Shibaura Engineering Works Co. was
separately incorporated as an independent company in 1938. This new company was
named Shibaura Machine Tool Co., Ltd. and evolved into Toshiba Machine Co., Ltd.
which today includes approximately 30 regional companies supplying global
markets with products including plastic injection molding machines, machine
tools, die-casting machines, robotics equipment and semiconductor manufacturing
equipment. Toshiba Machine Co., America is one of these regional companies,
supporting the North American market.
